WaterFire Providence is a non-profit organization which provides approximately 20 unique events per year, bringing over 50,000 people to downtown Providence per event. Nationally renowned WaterFire centers on a series of 100 bonfires that blaze just above the surface of the three rivers that pass through the middle of downtown Providence. The string of fires illuminates nearly two-thirds of a mile of urban public spaces and parks, and residents and visitors gather to stroll along the river while listening to a memorable and eclectic selection of classical and world music that serves as a melodic accompaniment to the normal sounds of urban life. The fires are tended from sunset to past midnight by black-clad performers in boats who pass quietly before the flames. There are no admission charges to WaterFire. Heritage Harbor Museum is a statewide history museum and cultural center for Rhode Island. A historic Loew's theatre built in 1928, it was nearly turned into a parking lot in the 1970's, but saved to become a world-class facility hosting touring Broadway shows, plays and concerts.

Start your day in Providence by taking a stroll along the river, glide gently in a gondola or sightsee from a kayak. Be sure to also take in the rich history of colonial Benefit Street which features the most impressive concentration of original Colonial homes in America.

Next, grab the trolley that picks up right in front of Providence Place and head downtown to sample Providence's art scene by seeing an award-winning play at the Trinity Repertory Theatre or a Broadway show at Providence Performing Arts Center.
If you're looking for more activity, The Fleet Skating Center offers year round fun with ice skating in the winter and roller skating in the spring/summer. The Fleet Skating Center is almost twice the size of New York City's Rockefeller Center rink.
