Southern Food & Beverage Museum Opens at New Orleans' Riverwalk Marketplace in June [May 2008] On Saturday, June 7, 2008, The United States Marine Corps Band and the White House Chief Usher, Rear Admiral Stephen Rochon, will join The Southern Food and Beverage Museum (SoFAB) in welcoming members and friends to celebrate the grand opening of its new home in New Orleans' Riverwalk Marketplace. Located at Riverwalk's Julia Street entrance, the new museum will be easily accessible to both locals and tourists. Founded in 2004, SoFAB is the first museum dedicated to the discovery, understanding and celebration of the food, drink and related culture of the South. Since its inception, the museum has contributed to a national culinary scholarship by launching the Menu Project, a collection of menus from throughout the South and menus from restaurants serving southern food throughout the U.S. and the world, and through its exhibits, "Toast of New Orleans," "Tout de Sweet – All about Sugar," and "Restaurant/Restorative." "Riverwalk is thrilled to welcome SoFAB to its new home," commented Lynn Walters, senior general manager at Riverwalk Marketplace. "Not only is the museum the first of its kind, but it is also a wonderful addition to the shopping and dining experience at Riverwalk Marketplace with its innovative and entertaining exhibits about the rich culture of southern food and beverage." "Making Riverwalk our home aligns perfectly with the SoFAB mission," stated museum President, Liz Williams. "At Riverwalk, we will be able to share the fascinating distinctions and stories about the food of the South with the thousands of tourists, convention delegates and local visitors."
